When installing 6 gutters we use 3 4 oversized downspouts as well allowing more water and debris to flow freely through the system. Most importantly oversized 6 inch gutters can handle approximately 40 more volume than a standard 5 seamless gutter system. Large rain gutters work better than the standard 5 inch size when you have upper gutters draining into lower gutters and other complicated layouts that cause an increased volume of water. The designer gutter system is larger and carries away 60 more water than a traditional system. Though a 6 gutter is only an inch bigger it does handle 40 more water.

The design of the house or roof size sometimes call for a more complex gutter system layout that can handle a larger volume of water. For example there may be two rows of gutters with gutters on the second story draining into gutters on the first story. A metal roof for instance causes the water to rush down a lot faster than an asphalt roof. Because half round gutters are so shallower experts recommend a larger size for better results.
