Oil based paint works very well on plastic and does not require a primer.
Paint for plastic gutters and downpipes.
We had an extension built and now have exposed white plastic windows and waste pipes a brown pipe going into the drain a grey plastic soil stack and black plastic gutters and down pipes.
Inspect your work as you go for runs and drips.
Apply the paint with a brush and a small 4 to 5 inch roller.
Older plastics can be brittle so make sure they are sound before.
Replace any leaky gaskets and joiners on guttering and fix or replace any faulty furniture on plastic doors and windows.
Paint the edges with a brush and the majority of the gutter and downspout with the roller.
No drip gloss will flow out beautifully on plastic gutters and downpipes giving a far superior finish than msp the difference being an oil base gives more working time hence leaves totally no brushmarks and only one coat of paint required.
Am very impressed with the result.
The gutters look like new.
To make matters worse if you don t do the job right you will probably find that you need to re paint your gutters and downpipes long before you have to paint your house again.
Dont use abrasives to clean it will show through something wicked.
The condition of the plastic.
Things to consider before painting plastic.
The two common things some people get wrong when painting gutters is choosing the wrong type of paint and not preparing the surface properly before painting.
Would the life of all this plastic be prolonged if painted and is there a special paint for the job.
The roller makes the job go much faster and produces a smooth finish.
Clean allow to dry and a couple of coats of gloss.
